Eastcombe WI

PAULINE opened the meeting and welcomed two visitors.

Glenys told us how very enjoyable the WI picnic at Highnam Court had been - they had also visited Highnam Church where they had had a most interesting talk.

The summer group meting will be at Bisley on July 6.

The money for the defibrillator now stood at £374.00.

The WI Centenary Exhibition at Gloucester Folk Museum beginning later in June will be on for four months and it is hoped that many members will go.

The next meeting of the Luncheon Club will be at The Tunnel House on July 30.

Dot gave a very interesting, amusing and descriptive account of the garden party she had attended at Buckingham Palace and said it had been an amazing experience.

Marion read the delegates report on the AGM at the The Albert Hall which was attended by the Queen who received the centenary baton.

There was a very long discussion on the resolution – some wording changes went through but it was agreed that in general it was very unsatisfactory and the resolution was discarded.

It could possibly be re-introduced with new wording at a future AGM.

Lindsey Braune, auctioneer, then gave a very interesting talk on An Auctioneer’s Working Week. Lindsey explained how very varied her work is including, for example, the valuing of house contents including an old house where artefacts of all descriptions and ages had accumulated over long periods of time to antique tractors and how her clients came from all walks of life.

She also values estates for probate.

Many members brought a great variety of pieces for Lindsey to talk about and value including porcelain, jewellery, silver and glass of different ages and value.

At the end Lindsey produced a short quiz for everyone to do.

It was a really fascinating and interesting evening and everyone learnt a lot.

She was thanked by Carol.
