Waterwells Park & Ride to benefit from new service

LOCAL bus operator, Stagecoach West, has been working alongside Gloucester County Council in a bid to revamp the Waterwells Park & Ride service, which will come in to effect as of Sunday, June 28.

Gloucester Park & Ride users will benefit from a new service as of Sunday, June 28, which will see the service 507 replaced.

The current service 66 will now run up to four buses per hour throughout the majority of Monday to Saturday, now diverting in to the Park & Ride.

The service will also run late in to the evening on both weekdays and Saturdays, as well as running hourly on Sundays – something that’s not currently in place with Bennetts.

Not only will the new service save Gloucestershire County Council £200,000 per year, allowing the budget to BE spent elsewhere within the City, but it will also help strengthen public transport links between Gloucester, Kingsway and Stroud.

Stagecoach West will be offering similar tickets to those already available from Bennetts Coaches, whilst also providing a special fare for Park & Ride customers.

Alongside this, Stagecoach Dayrider and Megarider tickets can be used in the Gloucester urban area, existing season tickets will be accepted, and up to two children can travel for free with each fare-paying adult.

Ticket costs are;

• Adult single - £2.00

• Child single - £1.40

• Adult return - £2.50

• Child return - £1.70

• Two person return (both passengers must be travelling together) - £4.00

• Adult / Child 12 tripper - £14.00

Councillor Will Windsor Clive, cabinet member for fire, planning and infrastructure, commented:

“This is great news for park and ride users. By joining up with a valuable local bus service, there are more travel options for bus users and there will also be savings for the local taxpayers.”

Rupert Cox, Managing Director for Stagecoach West for, commented:

“We’re excited to launch service 66 and help to further build links between the local areas. We hope that the removal of one service and the introduction of another will work seamless and passengers won’t notice any disruption.”
