Callowell Art Exhibition - All about that art

ON THURSDAY July 9, Callowell Primary School’s Year 6 organised an exhibition to show the art that children in every class in the school created.

Mr Jones, the Art Co-ordinator, said “It was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the children’s artwork here at Callowell.”

Parents were delighted to find their child’s artwork on display and enjoyed walking around the exhibition.

A company called Images collected the children’s artwork to frame and mount on special display boards, transforming the school hall into an art gallery.

Mr Jones explained “The idea of us having an art exhibition was to raise the profile of the subject and promote the children’s self-esteem by giving their work extra value and purpose. In the past the pupils have loved having their work on display and feel like real artists.”

The event ran very successfully and was well received by the pupils, parents and members of the wider community.

Ann Taylor of the Museum in the Park said “It was wonderful exhibition – I really enjoyed seeing the wide range of eye catching pictures. Well done to all of the children for their artwork and their organisation.”

Keith Stubbs of the ARCH Project called it “Terrific! Great to see artwork from every child in school. Some really interesting pictures from Reception and Year 1, but I especially liked the Miroesque pictures from Year 3 & 4.”

A parent commented that “We have often admired Callowell’s talent on stage and on the sports field, but what a treat to be able to see some of their talent in art. An excellent exhibition.“

The Year 6 children had been set a social enterprise task to promote and help run this event.

This has involved working in different teams to plan, obtain quotes, negotiated with Tesco for a great discount and run a budget to try and raise money for the school.

They have created invitations, posters, gallery guides, baked cakes to run a tea shop on the day and were on hand to guide people around the gallery and answer questions.

They raised in total more than £200 for the school.

They even wrote this newspaper report!
