Lansdown Art Club

MEMBERS of Lansdown Art Club watched intently as Sue Gilmore-Powell applied acrylic paint in what appeared to be a haphazard way, onto brown pastel paper, at our July meeting.

When she then used her pastels over the acrylic base, the picture that emerged had a bright, warm, interesting sky over a South Downs landscape.

Corn was bending in the wind, trees and fences casting shadows along a lane.

The acrylic base was able to dry during the break when members voted Jean Sandham's painting Picture of the Month, from ten entries, afterwards indulging themselves at the sales table.

Before the meeting closed, Sue gave a short critique on each of the ten paintings which exhibitors found most helpful.

Our next meeting on August 11, is an outdoor painting day when artists will produce work illustrating Stroud, especially the Lansdown area where the club started in 1966.

These paintings will then be used at the anniversary exhibition in the Subscription Rooms next year.

After the day's painting we shall meet at 6pm at Sainsburys cafe for refreshments and to discuss and admire our work.

We would like to see as many members, and visitors as possible, even if they have not been painting.
