WINSTON’S Wish, the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK, has been given a welcome boost thanks to a donation of £2,040 from the Tesco Community Awards.

The donation will make a really positive impact on the local community, helping to fund a Memories and Feelings Library, which contains therapeutic resources for Winston’s Wish to include in their work with bereaved children.

Deborah Jones, Trusts and Grants Fundraiser at Winston’s Wish, said: “At Winston’s Wish we help children rebuild their lives after the death of their mum, dad, brother or sister. The grant from Tesco Charity Trust enabled us to purchase new books, memory boxes and games for our Memories and Feelings Library.

Thanks to Tesco’s continued support we can use this Library to help more children remember the person who has died and explore how they feel. Thank you!”

Gemma Allen, Senior Practitioner at Winston’s Wish, explained the use of the memory boxes: “A memory box is a way of capturing and retaining memories of the loved person who has died. It helps a child maintain a connection and treasure those important memories”.

The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards provides one-off donations of between £500 and £2,500 to registered charities and not for profit organisations.

Mel Yates, Store Manager at the Tesco Metro Cheltenham (Lower High Street) store said “We’re committed to giving back to local communities and our Community Awards give us a brilliant opportunity to support local good causes. I am delighted that we are supporting Winston’s Wish; it is a fantastic organisation doing brilliant work in Gloucestershire and beyond, and I’m delighted we are able to help them in this way”.
