Selsley Cricket Club

THE annual match when the Club side play the President’s X1 took place at the Selsley Ground in beautiful sunshine on Sunday afternoon August 2.

The President’s side batted first on a good firm wicket and reached 143 runs for six at tea.

The Captain of the Club, Paul Ind, bowled fast and accurately taking three wickets for 26 runs off 10 overs.

He was ably supported by other bowlers including Harvey Gearon who bowled particularly well.

Among the batsmen scoring well for the President’s side were Phil Smith, Steve Eggleton and Ben Gardiner.

After an excellent tea provided by Mrs E Gardiner and friends the Club side batted.

Wickets fell to some good bowling which with some very good fielding inhibited the batsman’s ability to score runs.

As the clock neared the end of the match the ninth wicket fell with seven balls remaining.

Much to the credit of the last two batsman they held their ground and the match finished at 6.30pm the result being an honourable draw.

The President’s team was again expertly captained by David Ryland and as usual Roger Merrett had a very good match as wicket keeper.

The wicket had been very well prepared by Club members, Paul Ind, Jody Stocks and Crhis Hooper.

Tea was enjoyed by the players and the large crowd of supporters who also enjoyed a further exciting match in the series with some very good cricket played.

Selsley Cricket Club play regularly against neighbouring teams.
