Report of the 60th Anniversary and Annual General Meeting of the Rodborough Friendly Circle

ON THURSDAY, September 6, many Friends gathered at Stroud Rugby Club to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Rodborough Friendly Circle.

The catering members had laid the tables and decorated them beautifully with flowers and balloons and also prepared and served a fine lunch which was greatly enjoyed by all.

The party atmosphere continued by celebrating the birthdays of those present with the customary congratulations.

The special anniversary cake created by Marion Furley, was cut by Vic Beamish and was then distributed to members with a glass of wine to toast the occasion and to remember friends who had passed on. Members also enjoyed a party team game trying to recall as many nursery rhymes as possible, which caused a lot of fun when members forgot the words or they started to sing two rhymes at the same time.

The party was rounded of with the usual a prize raffle.

Each member was also given a special pen produced for the occasion.

The afternoon also included the AGM at which the reports were received and as the existing committee were happy to continue in office the meeting approved with the addition of Margaret Cook volunteering to join.

The updated constitution was approved.

The President was pleased to report a successful year and thanked the Committee for all the hard work during the twelve months.

He recalled the many duties which were often taken for granted – looking after the finances, organising day visits to various places including a wonderful holiday at Llandudno in June and a Christmas lunch at the Anchor at Epney.

Maintaining membership information was important as was organising the Ring and Ride bus, supplying raffle prizes, and serving teas, booking entertainment and fund raising which was generously supported by Rodborough Parish Council, Waitrose and the Rodborough Fete Social Committee whose grants would go towards meeting the increased costs of running the Friendly Circle.

During the year Friends had enjoyed a variety of guest speakers, both informative and entertaining also there were films and music, including the seasonal visit from Rodborough Primary School Children in December delighting members with their carol singing and handing out small gifts.

Members look forward to another successful year and invite any Rodborough resident interested in joining to contact either Olive Heskin 765378 or Ron Cook 76026.
