Stonehouse Wheelers

JULY began with a change to our previous annual routine.

We recycled our freewheeling competition from the hitherto traditional Wednesday evenings to a Sunday.

This proved popular, as sixteen turned up for this fun event near Haresfield (no - not the one down from the Beacon!).

The winner this year, with a record distance, was Nigel Warr.

Afterwards we adjourned to Highfield Nursery for refreshments on a lovely summer's day.

On June 14, Carol Kambites led a peloton! of 14 riders on a tour of the riverside lanes before having tea and cakes at The Stables Cafe.

The longest day was the occasion of one of our annual favourite happenings - The Strawberry Tea laid on by Margaret and Bill Adams.

Eighteen members enjoyed sandwiches, cakes, strawberries and cream on a cloudy but bright day.

The picnic planned at Sharpness on June 28 was scuppered by drizzle.

Roy Jones and eight others enjoyed the hospitality of Berkeley Tea Rooms instead.

July opened with Tony Martin and Roy Jones sharing the lead on a route out though Slad and across the top to The Duntisbournes.

The party of ten enjoyed refreshments at The Jolly Nive cafe at SAston Down on a day of some sun and some rain.

July 12, was the occasion of the Club's Annual Memorial Picnic ride.

A total of 11 led by Roy Jones on a trip around the riverside lanes before reaching the picnic venue at The Priding.

Members took the opportunity to pay their respects to all former Wheelers.

Cirencester was the destination on July 19, for another picnic in the Abbey grounds.

At last!

A proper warm and sunny Sunday.

The peloton of 11 cycled out through Minchinhampton and Kemble, returning via Daglingworth and Sapperton.

Only five turned up on July 26 to accompany Nigel Warr for a wet ride to Purton Church for refreshments.

Before returning Peter Kwan entertained both cyclists and local people on the church organ.

All are highly commended for completing this miserable Sunday outing.
