STROUD Local History Society was delighted to hear from the young woman
whose 1963 Stroud Show Queen photograph appeared in their recent Summer
Exhibition, and in this newspaper.
Judith Davis (now Cleever) contacted the Society and wrote:
"The Rose Queen Festival was held at Bussage School (the old building down by the Church, now a house) from 1957 until 1964.
Miss Lily Parker together with Mrs Madge Beavis organised it.
In 1963 I was fortunate to be chosen Queen and you can see me in the photo under the Midsummer Revels placard with a 'crown' on.
On the right of me as you look at the photo is Julie Pritchard, with Kathryn (not sure of the spelling) Partridge on the end.
On my other side I'm not sure.
In front of me is Andrew Stinchcombe.
The 'bride' in the foreground is Patricia (Pat) Broomfield and on her right (looking at the photo) is Valerie Bidmead."
Thank you for helping us identify one of the Show stars.
The Stroud Show committee plan to show more of the slides at a future meeting and hope to fill more gaps.
