Lansdown Art Club

USE of a microphone enhanced a very amusing as well as instructive evening at the September meeting of Lansdown Art Club.

It is rare to have information punctuated by actual jokes.

Colin Rose Jack originated from Fife and specialises in seascapes.

With his seascape canvases he also brought some of his portraits and pastoral scenes for members to examine.

As he prepared his demonstration canvas, he explained his reasons for not painting on a white background.

For his seascape he uses grey, blue or black.

If he is painting a snow scene he uses red.

For the preliminary sketching and for the foundation colour of the sea and the rocks he uses acrylic paint because of the shorter drying time.

After coffee he changed to using oils, white, blue and black, refining the sky, giving shape to the waves and the rocks, finishing with pure white, heavily applied, for the tops of the breaking waves and the spray.

Picture of the month was won by Nina Visaranta with a beautifully fine painting of a seed head.

The next meeting is on Tuesday, October 13 at 7.30pm in Sainsbury's cafe when Val Ridler will demonstrate Nature and Countryside using mixed media.

New members and visitors are always welcome.
