Leonard Stanley Wine Circle

A GOOD number of members turned out for the AGM, which was conducted ably and swiftly with the retiring chairman, Tim Smith handing over the gavel to the new chairman Bob Britton.

Tim Vale, after 18 years of being an excellent treasurer, had decided to retire and was thanked by Tim for all his hard work and presented with a bottle of wine and card signed by members.

Our new treasurer was duly elected and Sue Bischler was welcomed to the committee together with David Price as vice chairman.

Tim thanked Chris for all her hard work as secretary including organizing the programme.

He also thanked all the ladies who provide us with such a variety of appetizing food each month, including Noel for his bread, the table team and flower arrangers, Noel for updating the wine circle website and to David and Fiona for hosting the annual garden party.

His final thanks was to everyone for coming along each month and supporting the committee, as in his words ‘without you, there would be no wine circle’.

Bob seemed to enjoy banging the gavel and he warmly thanked Tim for all his work as chairman over the last 12 months, including the time when Bob was unwell.

In view of rising costs for speakers etc, it had been decided to increase the annual membership which had been held for several years at £20.00 to £22.50 per member.

Menus were distributed for the Christmas dinner being held on Thursday evening, December 17, and members were requested to give their choices to Chris.

Money for subs and Christmas dinner to be paid to the treasurer by end of November.

Once the AGM was completed, we enjoyed a quiz organized by Bob which stretched our knowledge of country flags, capitals of these countries, followed by a general knowledge one.

We ended up with a tie breaker and then adjourned to the kitchen to help ourselves to a well stocked table of food and enjoy chatting over a glass of wine.

Our next meeting is on November 25, when Annie Blick will give an illustrated talk on Stroud and the Five Valleys through the eyes of Edwin Peckham.
