SGS College fires up Great British Pottery Throwdown course

SGS College is offering a new pottery course to coincide with the start of BBC’s latest “Great British…” series, the Great British Pottery Throwdown.

Starting Tuesday, November 17, this short course has been created for complete beginners who want an introduction into ceramics.

Participants will get to grips with a variety of making methods including coil/pinch pot making, throwing and other hand-building techniques, which are used to make a selection of small vessels and sculptures.

People will also be taught decorating techniques, using slips/oxides and glazes and use of a gas kiln.

Course completers will also be able to participate in an exhibition next summer and join the Improvers class the following year.

No qualifications are needed to attend this course, which will be taught by professional ceramic artist, Aimee Lax.

Aimee is an award-winning ceramicist and experienced tutor.

Head of Art, Culture and Media at SGS College, Claire Bagnall-Hunt, comments: “Pottery is a fantastic hobby and growing in popularity. If you’re inspired by the BBC’s new series, come along and experience it for yourself.”

The Pottery Throwdown course at SGS lasts for five weeks and costs just £99, starting 17/11/2015 until 15/12/2015.
