GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S Netball Fun League is organising a Charity Tournament at Wycliffe College in Stonehouse on, November 29.

All funds raised will be going to the Maggie's Centre in Cheltenham.

Netballers of all abilities and genders are invited to enter teams via their website netballfunleague.co.uk for a fit and fun day.

Entries must be in by November 22.

The event will consist of three hours of netball matches, starting at 12pm, and categories include Ladies, Mixed and Back to Netball (beginners) leagues.

Cakes will be on sale and there will be some fabulous raffle prizes, so far these include: Afternoon Tea at the newly refurbished Queens Hotel in Cheltenham, Superdry clothing vouchers, Cattle Country entrance vouchers, a prize from The Daffodil Restaurant, two Revolve ‘Photography' VIP Deluxe Gift Boxes, signed Rugby Shirt from the Gloucester Rugby lads, and two signed books from top-selling author Dinah Jefferies.

Donations for prizes are still welcome!

Nick Wallbank, co-ordinator of the Netball Fun League says: 'This is the second Christmas charity event we've held for a good cause. It's great fun, and, of course, great exercise. It costs £590,000 a year to keep a Maggie's Centre open, so we want everyone to get together, play some netball, have some fun and help this fantastic Cheltenham resource! The tournament costs teams £42 to enter and fancy dress is encouraged. Anyone can enter, no matter what their ability.'

Teams can register by going to netballfunleague.co.uk and follow the link from there.

The minimum age for players is 14.

The Gloucestershire based Netball Fun League was founded in 2009 by Bridget Beardsley and now there are more than 1,400 players playing in the league almost every night of the week, with venues across the county.

She says: 'We believe that netball is for everyone, whatever your standard or your fitness, so if you're interested in joining a team we'd encourage you to take that step.

'We are committed to offering netball to anyone that would like to play, and there is nothing better than seeing some of those new teams progress as their skills improve, and their confidence builds. There is no sitting on the side, and not getting a game - everyone plays. We make sure that you are playing in the correct division for your standard, and if we get it wrong, then we will move you. It’s all very flexible, and focuses on ensuring your Netball Fun League experience is a positive one.'

Jane Fide, Centre Head at Maggie’s, said: “It’s great news that a wonderful event is fundraising for Maggie’s, the support we receive will help to fund the running of the Centre as we go into our sixth year. We wish everyone the best of luck as it sounds to be a fun day!”
