Cotswold Rangers’ eight-team huddle "so moving" on Remembrance Sunday

REMEMBRANCE Sunday’s traditional two-minute silence was impeccably observed by the county’s many players and supporters at the weekend, and none more so than at Bishops Cleeve where Cotswold Rangers were playing a Youth game.

Eight teams representing various age groups from across the area descended on the Cheltenham Road ground for the usual matchday action in the Cheltenham Youth League, all of whom gathered together for two thoughtful minutes to pay their respects to our fallen war heroes before their respective kick-offs.

A picture of the super-huddle was taken by Cotswold Rangers secretary Emma Mitchell ahead of her club’s Under-14s Division Two fixture with Bishops Cleeve Colts Rovers.

Emma explained: “It moved me to see the united respect that young people have for their fallen war heroes. The two-minute silence was impeccably honoured, as it always is.

“I took the photo because the players were anonymous from my angle and I felt the varied colours were quite vivid and depicted the diverse range of ages, teams and players who were effectively strangers to one another but united as one through respect.

“Obviously grassroots football is all about respect on so many levels and this unity of respect is rarely seen so poignantly.”
