Stroud Valleys Music Club: Speaker Lionel Carley gives a talk on Edvard Grieg
AT ITS LAST meeting, the Music Club was treated to a finely researched presentation on the last years of Edvard Grieg’s life by Lionel Carley.
Lionel has written a biography of Grieg and he was able to share with us many details of the Norwegian’s musical life, illustrated with several historic recordings.
In particular we heard about Grieg’s connections with England towards the end of the 19th century, with special reference to Percy Grainger whose skills as a pianist were highly regarded by Grieg.
At our next meeting on November 25, we shall be listening to a programme of music inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
