Stroud and District Philatelic Society

MEMBERS at our first November meeting were entertained by a very interesting display of King George VI stamps given by Bryan Jones from Sollihull.

These stamps are very popular with collectors for their iconic designs and high quality engraving.

The emphasis of Bryan’s display was these issues on covers from Great Britain and many commonwealth countries.

Most interesting was the stamps used in minor post offices, for example Plum Tree and Fig Tree in Rhodesia, and the exotically named Double Head Cabbage in British Honduras (now called Belize).

Our first meeting of the new year, on January 6, will feature items from the collection of chairman John Armitage.

Only our second ever daytime meeting will be held at Painswick when two of our members will display items from their collections.

Non-members are welcome to attend.

For more information, or to join, please contact John Armitage 01453-835198.
