Cainscross WI: The first meeting of the year

MOST members met again for the first meeting of the year in early January.

Val Dalby was thanked for her lovely table flowers and apologies were received from Rowena Eccles, Pam Clapp, Dot Brunning and Georgie Hall.

We discussed some correspondence received, including a pretty Christmas thank you card from Jeanne Marlow, our Jazz Singer from the Christmas meeting.

We were glad to hear that herself and Rod enjoyed the evening as much as we did.

We have decided to join the Weavers Group with many other WIs in the area, and the next meeting of the Group to be held on Wednesday, April 6, will take place in our own hall at St Matthew’s Church, Cainscross.

Some of our members of course will be in attendance and a few entry tickets are still available at the present time.

With business concluded, some members continued with their craft and knitting projects, whilst others enjoyed a quiz presented by President Doreen.

This caused some chatter and laughter and was followed by refreshments.

The evening ended with the calling of the raffle and the monthly competition for ‘My best Christmas Card’ winners announced as:-

First - Mary Jarrett

Second - Margaret Adams

Third - Linda Foreman

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 2, to start as usual at 7.15pm in St Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross, when we will welcome Mr Barry Harrison and ‘Stroud’s First Doctor’.

The monthly competition will be for ‘A Valentine’s treat to eat’.

Then on March 1, we will learn all about ‘Transition Stroud’ with Mrs Helen Royall at the same time and place.

We would love to see you at any, or all, of the meetings and visitors/new members are very welcome to join us for this our 90th Anniversary year which we are trying to make extra special.

More details on any of the above are available from Mary on 01453 762812.
