Leonard Stanley Wine Circle: Burns Night

WE CELEBRATED our first meeting in 2016 with the traditional Burns Night and arrived to a warm hall and being greeted with Scottish music playing in the background.

Dave Price, deputy chairman welcomed members and said that Bob was unable to attend being in Scotland on holiday.

Dave did a good job getting everything going and we all sat down to a very satisfying home made soup.

Andy Gunn kindly stepped in wearing his Scottish regalia and walked around the tables to much applause with Dave carrying the haggis to more music, with Andy reading a Robbie Burns poem whilst addressing the haggis.

The ladies then served the food which we all enjoyed, some going up for seconds and this was washed down with a wee dram or a glass of wine (or both).

We then enjoyed helping ourselves to a large choice of delicious puds made by some of the members (including men).

When we had finished, Dave thanked the ladies and gents who had worked so hard in preparing the meal itself and the people who had provided the puddings, plus the music which had all helped to make the Burns Night go with a swing.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 24, at the Village Hall when Peter Berry will give a talk entitled ‘And the Wife came too’, which is about riding freight trains in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado and New Mexico during the beautiful Autumn scenery.
