Stonehouse Women's Royal British Legion: With speakers Rowan and Sue from the RSPCA

THE monthly meeting took place at the Community Centre on Thursday, March 31 at 1.45pm.

Chairman Janet Walsh led the exhortation and silent tribute.

There were 27 members present.

Our speakers were Rowan and Sue from the RSPCA.

Stroud has had an independent branch for 75 years, where a twice weekly clinic is held.

Help can also be given to those with financial problems.

The work of the RSPCA is to support the most vulnerable animals in our community and try to get them a new start in life.

They rescue a lot from illegal breeders.

On average 250 animals are rescued every year in this area.

A new Cotswold dogs and cats home is currently being built near Cam which will be able to cater for 750 animals a year with a purpose built Veterinary Centre.

Their aim is to make an animal feel safe and get its confidence back.

We saw a lovely true video of a dog called Reggie.

Volunteers are always needed for walking, grooming and cleaning.

Foster carers are also needed.

There are five shops in this area to try and generate an income.

Janet thanked Sue and Rowan for their very interesting talk.

Our next meeting is on April 28 when Jon Mason from Highfield Garden Centre will be our speaker.

The competition will be for a flower picture.

Our competition winner for March with a miniature dog was Theresa Beales.

Anzac Day is on April 24, when there will be a service at Leighterton church at 3pm.
