RETIRED solicitor Mike Lambert is appealing to others to join him as volunteer drivers for Longfield.

Every week Mike, from Frampton upon Severn, collects patients from their homes and drives them to Longfield at Minchinhampton and then takes them back home.

He has been volunteering for more than two years and loves it.

“It’s time to do something helpful. The patients really appreciate the service as it means they don’t need to worry about getting back and forth to Longfield for day therapy,” said Mike.

“You really feel part of the charity. I like to think that I am an ambassador for the services.”

Volunteer drivers need to be between the age of 25 and 70, have a valid driving licence, an MOT certificate and comprehensive insurance.

“Transport is offered to patients coming for one hour appointments, to attend day therapy or to attend groups,” said Suzie McDonnell.

“Our volunteer drivers enable the charity to support people who may not otherwise be able to receive our care and support. Just a couple of hours a week can make a real difference to someone.”
