COTSWOLD Voluntary Wardens have been working on various projects on footpath in the Stroud area.

The most exciting of these projects has been the installation of a new gate designed for use by disabled ramblers.

The gate is a two way Aston positioned to allow disabled ramblers' electric buggies to gain access from Selsley Common onto the woodland footpaths.

Wardens' labour was free and the gate was paid for by the voluntary contributions of walkers who have enjoyed the guided walks led by wardens.

The new gate is positioned near to the cattle grid at the Nympsfield end of the Common, and a few yards away from the older horse riders' gate.

Horse riders are asked to continue to use the original gate and avoid the new gate.

This is to try to ensure that the surface is not poached by hooves and so made difficult for the tyres of the electric buggies.

All of the wardens are retired, but enjoy this activity as their "green gym".
