Stonehouse Gardening Club: With speaker Paul Green from Green Leaves Nurseries in Newent

KEEN gardeners entering the Stonehouse Community Centre on Wednesday, May 4, were met by an array of foliage colours and scents.

The speaker at the Stonehouse Gardening Club meeting was Paul Green from Green Leaves Nurseries in Newent, and his talk was lively and fascinating.

He talked about where to use dark foliage, and where not; about large and small leaves, scented leaves, heart shaped leaves, leaves with prickles all over, drought resistant leaves, whispering leaves, ground cover, pruning (hard), how to avoid dark leaves turning lighter, and getting two flowerings a season.

There were lots of questions, and many purchases!

The next meeting on June 1, will be an evening visit to Pound Farm Whaddon, for a demonstration, a tour of the greenhouses, refreshments and plants.

If you are interested in attending Gardening Club events, please note that membership of the club is not necessary; a very small fee will be charged at the door.

Meetings are usually held at the community centre on the first Wednesday evening of the month, starting at 7.30pm.
