Arlingham WI: Resolution

OUR May meeting was opened as usual by Chrissie who informed us of upcoming events; these included a walk around English Bicknor, the GFWI Christmas Carol Concert, croquet, a public speaking contest and the County picnic.

After the financial report we discussed the event for our June meeting which this year will be a visit to Wick Court to see the Handlebards production of ‘Much ado about nothing.’

We then discussed the Resolutions.

After much debate, we agreed that although it was a good idea in principle for hospitals to provide overnight accommodation for carers of patients in hospital with dementia, with the burden the NHS is under at present, it would be unfeasible to implement such provision.

The majority vote was against.

There was unanimous support in favour of the second resolution to ask supermarkets to voluntarily sign up to a charter to reduce food waste.

It was felt this was a step in the right direction even if it doesn’t go far enough in the opinion of some members.

There was then just enough time to enjoy a photo quiz organised by Linda.

Despite these all being snaps of local buildings it proved surprisingly difficult.

Congratulations to Kay for getting them all right.

The delicious spread was produced by Chris and Chrissie this month, and the beautiful flowers donated by Val were given to Anne Spargo.

The competition for an item beginning with ‘T’ was won by Carol, who managed to bring in a small table, second place went to Linda with some beautiful sugar tongs and in joint third place were Maureen, Jeanette and Fay.

The next meeting will be the outing so normal meetings resume in July.

We meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at the Village Hall.

Newcomers are always welcome.
