Report for Leonard Stanley WI: An old fashioned games evening

BUSINESS was short this month, owing to the speaker being unable to attend due to personal reasons and our looking forward to our in house entertainment, playing old fashioned games that we played at school.

However, before we could get going, we learnt that our WI raised the sum of £140 towards the Air Ambulance at the recent Plant Sale in the village hall.

The visit to the synagogue on June 20, would now be by car and not mini-bus as previously thought.

The newsletter was discussed with items of interest being of a WI starting at Eastwood Open Park, the County meeting on September 27, County Picnic on June 28, and photographs of the Yarn Bombing to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday and were pleased to see one showing some members decorating the tree outside St Swithins church.

Our lunch for this month will be on June 22, at the Anchor at Epney and our July meeting will be the usual excellent Ploughman’s lunch.

Members were reminded to bring along items already purchased or made for the Christmas Boxes to see how we are getting on - so we had better get knitting and sewing!

We then congregated around the numerous tables in the room, all set out with various games such as Snakes and Ladders, Sorry, Bagatelle, etc.

This was much enjoyed, as we moved from table to table amid much laughter and groans from those not winning.

It was a most enjoyable afternoon bringing back memories from childhood days and also helping to cement members together.

Well done Jill for organizing at short notice.

For our usual tea, we had a lovely surprise when Margaret Coulston presented a beautiful iced homemade cake to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday, which was much enjoyed by all.

Afterwards members brought along and discussed their favourite books from childhood which again brought back many memories.

Next meeting is the Ploughman’s lunch, with strawberries and meringue at 12 noon in the Village Hall on July 11.
