FRAMPTON on Severn Sailing Club are celebrating their 50th Anniversary this year.

A lively Barn Dance with Downfield School Band was held at the club on Saturday, July 23, followed by a sailing event on Sunday, July 24, when 69 boats took to the water for a parade of boats.

The lake was awash with colour from the many different boats and sails.

Participants were all current or former members of the club and ranged in age from two to well over 80.

A team race was run in the afternoon with 40 boats in eight teams, over three fleets.

Racers included juniors who had never raced with adults, adults who had never raced at all, and members of the club's Sailability section (disabled sailors) as well as the more seasoned racers.

It is a great feature of the club that members give up their own time to train juniors and adults, and also help disabled sailors to get out on the water each week.

To see all these different aspects of the club together was fabulous!

The three fleets were won by Phil and Sarah Kirk (Wotton under Edge), Jon Barrance (Stroud) and David Greenfield (Frampton).

The team race was won by a mix of long standing and newer members: Rhonwen James (Gloucester), Ian Haywood (Pershore), Rob Cyphus (Thornbury), Richard Bayliss (Dursley), Sailful and Athena Khan (Bristol).

The club's celebrations continued the following weekend with a Gala Dinner at the club.
