THE Stroud Chess Club has checkmated its way to a grand slam with spectacular results in the 2015/16 season.

All three teams won their respective divisions playing in the North Gloucestershire Chess League and then went on to win the annual coveted Knock Out Trophy.

Quite a turnaround for a club that was in the doldrums not so long ago, with only a handful of players.

Now there are 25 enthusiastic members, aged from 13 to 70+ ranging from beginners to experts.

New players of all skill levels are welcome to join this friendly club which meets on Tuesday evenings from 7pm at The Black Book Café on the corner of Parliament and Nelson Streets in Stroud.

Come along on any Tuesday evening or to find out more about this vibrant club contact the Secretary, Adrian Walker on 07895683290.
