Cainscross WI: A visit to Giffords Circus

WE HAD nearly a full turnout for our August meeting, with a couple of visitors also joining us.

Apologies however were received from Pam Clapp and Rowena Eccles.

After dealing with business, such as the financial update, and minutes of last meeting, President Doreen read out the minutes received from Heather Harmer, President of Cam Village WI of the NFWI Annual General Meeting at the Brighton Centre, which she attended as a Delegate in early June.

This sounded a very interesting meeting.

Pretty flowers for the table were arranged by Margaret Adams in a sweet little vase to tone in with the flowers.

The next part of the evening was dedicated to three different crafts, with some members deciding to knit a ‘foxy’ keyring which was fun.

Whilst two other teams either decorated a tea towel with block printing in different designs or made a greetings card of their choice.

The evening went well and we must thank Doreen for providing all the ideas and components for each task.

We finished with refreshments, the calling of two raffles; one a special one for Denman College funds plus the usual club one and the monthly competition winners announced as:-

First - Linda Foreman

Second - Tina Hewgill

Joint Third - Margaret Adams and Mary Jarrett

Since this meeting some members have recently been to the circus, Giffords Circus that is, who are currently touring their ‘Painted Wagon’ production on Frampton-on-Severn Village Green.

Giffords were well up to their usual high standard, with some old favourites like Tweedy the clown and Bibi and Bichu the talented jugglers.

There were many new acts too that I hadn’t seen before such as some wonderful acrobats and a new band.

My own favourites still include the beautiful horses, but it is wrong to single out any particular act as they were all so good.

After this, a few of us ‘really pushed the boat out’ and enjoyed a three course dinner with Circus Sauce; Giffords’ own on-site restaurant.

If you haven’t yet visited, I can fully recommend it and this tour continues until late September, at different local venues.
