Hero Scott remounts after crash to finish MotoGP

Gloucester born Scott Redding was hoping for a good result at Silverstone on Sunday but trying too hard when the top 8, sliding off at 80 mph, remounting to finish without being lapped to applause from all around the circuit. Watched by ex Manx Grand Prix rider and disabled Gloucester fireman George Ridgeon, who was a guest of the organisers.

George’s first stop in the paddock was to look up Scott and was pleased to be invited to watch mechanics working on Scott’s bike.

Stopping for dinner at paddock Cafe recognising a Gloucester accent turned out to be Andy Presley, Carlton Road, who had a relation who was a fireman at the same time, as George.

In the Moto 2 race British rider Sam Lowes was leading only to be hit off by another rider who was penalised finishing out of the points.

In an exciting Moto GP, the crowd favourite Valentino Rossi (The Dr) was in the top three behind Mark Marquez leading the world championship, a surprise as Suzuki rider Maverick Vinales was leading with British rider, Cal Crutchlow fourth but in the last few laps Crutchlow moved up to second, Rossi third with Suzuki’s first win for some years.
