After the summer break we met again on September 8, there were several apologies for absence and with the business part of the meeting dealt with we were pleased to note that our preserves stall at the village fete had made a profit, a donation to the fete's chosen charity had been made and we were able to keep £120 for our own use, this being our only fundraiser throughout the year.

We have received an invite from Eastcombe WI to a fashion show on September 20.

The group carol concert will be on Monday, December 5 at St Augustine's Church in Eastcombe.

The speaker, Pete Milner, gave us most interesting talk which was beautifully illustrated with a slide show of the Big Mountains in Alaska, the biggest state in the USA.

The largest mountain being Mt McKinley which stands at 25,000 feet.

Pete and companions camped at various stages through the Canadian Yukon Territory on a long trek, through deep snow, wearing snow shoes, negotiating glaciers and treacherous conditions, carrying everything they would need to Mount Logan through the King Trench with King Peak on one side and Queen Peak on the opposite side, camping overnight in tents in freezing conditions and sometimes building their own igloos in which to rest.

Not a trip for the fainthearted, the photographs were absolutely stunning.

Dates of the next meetings: October 13, Cococaravan will be coming to talk about Chocolate making, which sounds particularly yummy. November 10, the annual meeting, we welcome back Alexandra Stanbrook with her new talk on hilarious hats. Two exciting dates for your diaries ladies as we head into autumn.
