Stroud Shambles WI: A visit to The Elgar Birthplace Museum and Visitor Centre in Shrewsbury and a demonstration by Molly Walker

SUZANNE Webb welcomed members and read through the notices and forthcoming events.

Apologies from Jenny Ray, Carol Butcher and Freda Bonner-Barlow.

Birthday posies were presented to Suzanne Webb and Chris Phillips.

Our summer outing was held on Wednesday, August 10, when we visited The Elgar Birthplace Museum and Visitor Centre in Shrewsbury, where we enjoyed an informative introductory video at the start of our visit.

We then had a tour of the Visitor Centre and after that we meandered through the pretty gardens to the cottage where Elgar was born.

It was small but filled with a fascinating collection of objects which traced Elgar's childhood and family life.

As we had a little time to spare at the end of our trip we managed to play a quick game of bowls which we obtained from the Victorian Games Box in the Jubilee Gardens.

A very pleasurable and relaxing day was had by all.

Molly Walker one of our members was our Speaker to-day, who showed us how to make Gift Boxes from decorative sheets of paper without the need of adhesive, but simply by cutting and folding.

A great idea with Christmas coming up.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the Congregational Church Hall, Stroud at 10.30am.

New members are always welcome.
