Stroud Wine Circle: Produce and cake sale, and annual quiz

AUGUST is the month when we have our annual home grown produce and cake sale, and it is amazing how quickly items are purchased, but considering the low prices it is perhaps not so surprising that the tables were soon bare.

This is also the month when Dave Marlow tests our brain power with a quiz and he really excelled himself this time which caused much head scratching and ball point pen chewing.

There were two competitions judged by Ray Hales and Mike Attwood from Swindon Village.

The social white class was won by Fred Gilip; Christine Philip second and Brenda Marlow third.

Joyce Meadows won the ‘Marlow’ trophy with her Cabinet Sauvignon type (red dry) with Christine Philip second and Valerie Fussell third.

During the month several members entered the Reddings Village Show and did particularly well with Gillian Gay taking first place in both the white sweet and red dry classes and was commended for her white dry.

Dave Marlow took second place for his red sweet and third for his white dry.

Christine Philip secured a second with a white sweet, John Coleman was awarded a third for his red dry and his wife Janice also had a third for her red sweet.

Brenda Marlow was highly commended for her red sweet.

Our next meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Stonehouse Community Centre when Peter Berry will talk on his passion for steam locomotives.

This will be an opportunity for amateur wine makers to come along and see what we do.
