Lansdown Art Club: A demonstration by Holly from Kendrick Street Art Shop

WE HAD a very different evening at our September meeting.

For the first time since moving to our Sainsburys venue we had a workshop.

Holly from the Kendrick Street Art Shop gave a demonstration using oil pastels, after which she conducted a workshop.

She brought different makes in their different colours along with papers, stencils, brushes and even nails.

The use of tracing paper with pencils, and the stencils with the pastels, enabled the user to achieve sharp lines.

The brushes, used with a minute amount of turpentine, gave a soft, blended finish to the work.

Some of us found fingers were also very useful.

Having members around tables in groups of about six, sharing the things Holly had brought, meant an interaction and banter that gave the evening an enjoyable, relaxed yet instructive atmosphere.

We had five paintings on the Picture of the Month table showing a variety of media and techniques.

The winner was Kathy Campbell with her "Mother and Pup" done in acrylics.

The evening ended on a slightly sad note when Holly told us she was selling her shop.

Many members have watched it grow and have found it indispensable for supplies and help over the years.

We have also enjoyed the courses offered and gained inspiration from the paintings displayed.

The Next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 11, at 7.30pm in Sainsburys Cafe when we shall have our AGM.

We hope to see as many members as possible.

We will try to keep the business to a minimum so that we have time to discuss some of the comments on the paintings at our April exhibition.

There will be “nibbles“ and drinks to sustain members through all this.
