Nailsworth and District Flower Arrangement Society: A demonstration from Delyth Price

OUR guest for the evening at our September meeting was Delyth Price, a self- taught area demonstrator who has through her love of flowers and flower arranging, become an active member of the National Committee judging at Chelsea, and in October will be taking her Pre-National Test.

Delyth’s title for her floral designs was “Night at the Musicals” .

For her first arrangement entitled “Lion King” Delyth used large “cocoa spades” for a base on which to create a stunning design of formium, fatsia and hosta leaves, complimented by beautiful red gladioli, drecinia, anthiriums, yellow carnations and dried palm leaves.

Her second design depicting the musical ”Billy Elliot”, was an unusual combination of white feathers in a cascading arrangement of soft ruscus, white fresias white spray carnations and white avalanche roses.

With red spray carnations, red roses, and red gerberas together with the black stems of soft ruscus and sprayed palm leaves Delyth created a vibrant interpretation of “Phantom of the Opera”.

“Wicked” was the title for her next design.

Lovely shades of green foliage fatsia leaves and phoenix palms were the base to which she demonstrated some simple ways of using manipulated aspidistra leaves to enhance a beautiful display of lime green chrysanthemums and yellow carnations.

For her fifth and final arrangement Delyth used autumn garden flowers and plant material in varying shades of pink, aqua roses, carnations, some beautiful dahlias, and rubekia to depict her theme “Mary Poppins”.

After each arrangement Delyth lightened the mood of the evening encouraging the audience to take part in singing songs from her chosen musicals after each of her stunning arrangements.

“A very talented lady.”
