Cainscross WI: Cotswold Flowers with Sue Smith and Sue Dodd

WE WERE sadly a bit depleted for our October meeting, with quite a few members taking an autumn break.

Apologies were received from Pam Clapp, Rowena, Crystal, Dot, Jean, Kate and Georgie.

Mary had arranged some table flowers in a pretty bone china cup and saucer with small pieces of sedum, pittesporum and tiny pink fairy roses and cyclamen.

With the minutes of last meeting signed and the Treasurer’s financial update given, some correspondence was discussed and also some arrangements for the forthcoming Christmas party meeting in early December.

Some lovely hand knitted poppies were on display and we really have some very good knitters in the group.

With business concluded, we settled back to enjoy a talk and slideshow on 'Cotswold Flowers' by the two Sues - Sue Smith and Sue Dodd.

The ladies took us through the year with some wonderful slides of many of the wild flowers and shrubs growing in the Cotswolds, taking in many different areas, such as the commons and beyond, as well as in their own back gardens.

Both Sues are a mine of information, not only on flowers, but also their main love of butterflies and have also produced their own handmade greetings cards of some of their photography.

They are very good and clear speakers and their talk and slides really are a lovely way to spend an autumn evening.

We finished with refreshments and the raffle and the calling of the competition winners for a houseplant as:-

First - Mary Jarrett

Second - Margaret Adams

Third - Tina Hewgill

Next month’s meeting, to be held on Tuesday, November 1, as usual in St Matthew’s Church Hall, will be the AGM as well as a demonstration of cheeses, supplied by Waitrose supermarket, Stroud.

As previously mentioned the Christmas party will follow on Tuesday December 6, also at St. Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross, to start around 7pm, but please be aware that bookings will be needed for this event.

More details, if needed, on any of the above can be obtained by calling 01453 762812.
