Stroud WI: Beyond the Arctic Circle with Clive and June Blackmore
SUZANNE, our president, welcomed members and briefly read through forthcoming events and notices.
We had three visitors today and hopefully they will consider joining our WI.
A minutes silence was held in memory of Pauline Steele, a long standing member who passed away recently after suffering from dementia.
Clive Blackmore again entertained us with a home video.
This one was called "To Beyond the Artic Circle".
Clive and June went on a four week touring holiday staying at camp sites in Norway and Sweden, covering over 2,900 miles.
They first visited Bergen, Norway's second largest city, which is surrounded by mountains and fjords.
It has museums, a funicular, fish market and attractive colourful wooden houses in the wharf area and many other attractions.
After Bergen they travelled on through the snow capped mountains and long tunnels to the Artic Circle passing many impressive fjords and waterfalls on the way.
It must have been quite and experience.
Clive and June are seasoned campers and they watched in amusement while less accomplished campers tried unsuccessfully to erect their tents.
Clive proved also to be quite hardy, when he was filmed swimming in what appeared to be extremely cold water.
Thanks again Clive, we wish you and June many more adventures.
