A PACKED church full of young families and the not so young joined together at Saint James’ Church Quedgeley on Sunday to celebrate the Harvest Festival.

The Harvest Festival was combined with the Holy Communion service and the Family Service.

This broke with tradition as the Holy Communion service is normally held at 9.30am once a month with the Family Service at 10.30am.

Donations from the congregation of non-perishable goods were well received and they will be sent to the Gloucester Food bank.

The combined service did not see youngsters missing out on their monthly story or craft activity.

This month it was decorating flower shaped biscuits with icing and sweets.

There was plenty to keep youngsters occupied in the Little People’s Corner with toys, crayons and paper.

Father John Rector and Parish Priest said: “I was very encouraged by the numbers attending the church this morning. We try to advertise our services as much as possible through our notice boards, face book and our web site. All the children were very enthusiastic and it was pleasing to see so many donations being made. It is good that the gifts will be sent to the Gloucester Food bank who I know serve the City well in helping to provide for those who are needy”.
