Stroud Valleys Music Club: The golden age of the American Broadway
IT WAS an evening of musical nostalgia and delight when our old friend Malcolm Lewis took us through the golden age of the American Broadway musical from the 1920s to 1950s.
Centre stage was Oscar Hammerstein who wrote the lyrics for almost a thousand songs, working with such composers as Jerome Kern, Rudolf Friml, Sigmund Romberg and the great Richard Rodgers.
We were treated to a succession of well-loved words and music, bringing back many memories, and it was fitting that we ended with the Sound of Music.
