Stonehouse Gardening Club: The unasked question

WHAT was the unasked question at Stonehouse Gardening Club on Wednesday, October 5?

The answer was “power of Hydrogen”.

Fortunately the speaker had a better grasp of the subject than this implies as his topic was Gardening on Clay.

Professional gardener Austen Perkins, explained the science behind soil types and then gave techniques for coping with the local heavy soils.

(Mulch with compost, leaf mould and dung. In autumn dig over into big chunks ready for winter, let the birds eat the bugs and the frost break up the soil.)

He even explained double digging and demonstrated with his favourite gardening tool, the three tine cultivator.

Many donated plants were available for purchase in aid of club funds.

And the unasked question was: “What does pH stand for?”

The next club meeting on November 2, is on Garden Design,
