Leonard Stanley Wine Circle: AGM

A GOOD number of members attended the AGM and were very sorry to hear the death of long standing member Horace Harris.

A minutes silence was observed whilst we remembered Horace and also the late Leon Green, both stalwart active members.

Chairman Bob gave notice that Chris Phillips would be standing down as Secretary and Events Organiser at the end of 2017 and that David Price would now take over his role as Chairman but that we still needed a Vice Chairman.

Bob thanked David for deputising for him whilst on holiday and also thanked the committee and members who had supported him and the Club during his year of office.

Sue gave the Treasurer’s report and said that there would be no increase in subscriptions for the coming year.

The Chairman then handed over the gavel to David who in turn thanked him for his work over the last four years when he had been both Chairman and Vice Chairman.

David explained a new idea to help retain the regular enjoyment of speakers at each meeting and said that this task previously had fallen on Chris in her role as Secretary and suggested that in future this task should be spread amongst all members.

To this end he issued a list of possible speakers and said this would be discussed in more detail at a future meeting.

The 2017 programme apart from the annual outing had already been organized.

The Christmas Dinner Menu to be held on December 21, in the village hall was distributed and members were asked to return this no later than the November meeting with their menu choice, together with relevant cheque of £18 per person.

The meeting ended with David asking members to raise a glass to the memory of Horace Harris, this was followed by Bob presenting another of his famous quizzes, which caused a great deal of hilarity.

Then the usual scramble to the kitchen to enjoy as ever an excellent buffet.

Our next meeting will be on November 30, in the village hall commencing at 7.30pm when William Reddaway will give a talk about his riding around England on horseback.

William is an excellent speaker and his talk will be much enjoyed.

Why not come along and see if you would like to join us?
