Leonard Stanley WI: Christmas Party

THIS was the first time we held our Christmas party in the new afternoon slot and it was well attended, with members on arrival given the option of a glass of wine or non alcoholic drink helping to get in the festive mood.

The hall was well decorated and the committee excelled themselves by putting on a Christmas themed ‘Tea at the Ritz’ which certainly went down well, with everyone tucking into delicious sandwiches, scones with cream and strawberry jam, fancy cakes and meringues, followed by those who had room with a slice of homemade Christmas cake.

Our entertainment was by members of Stroud Ukelele Group who soon got us all singing and feeling Christmassy, and this was followed by more entertainment by some of our members who made us laugh whilst singing alternative words to a Christmas carol.

With everyone wearing something sparkly – the hall glittered and the conversation buzzed. All in all – a great success.

A bit of fun was had with members guessing who the new committee was from photographs of them as babies or young children with not many of us getting it right.

Business was kept to a minimum with President Maureen welcoming everyone and wishing them a Happy Christmas.

Birthday flowers were given out to Chris Camm and Glenys Cook – the latter celebrating a ‘special’ birthday shortly.

Special thanks was given to Jill Hutchings who had decided to step down as Secretary after very many years of excellent service.

Chris Phillips has taken over this position and she quickly went through the various notices and reminded members to think about their choice of Resolutions over the Christmas period.

Also subs are due in January and Mary Nash will be holding her usual ‘tea and subs’ afternoon on January 4, between 2pm and 4pm.

The next lunch will be a Christmas one at The Beacon on January 18, when a £5 deposit will be required.

Next meeting will be on January 9, when Molly Walker from Stroud Shambles WI will give a hands-on session making gift boxes.

Why not start the New Year off and join us – you will be very welcome.
