Nailsworth WI: The Commons Edge Group Meeting

ON SEPTEMBER 19, Nailsworth WI hosted the Commons Edge Group Meeting.

After the business of the meeting, which included a very comprehensive and lively report by our secretary of the many varied and fascinating talks and events provided by Box, Minchinhampton, Nailsworth and Woodchester WIs in the past year, we were entertained by the very talented Ann Blagden.

She started off by explaining how she took up the art of belly dancing and gave some of the history of the dance and explained the meaning of some of the moves before transforming the ambience of the Parish Room with her graceful and spirited performance of the dance.

The mood came down to earth again when we all, with the help of Ann, tried some of the moves.

At our October meeting Diana Wall gave an interesting talk about the local area during WWII which brought back memories to some of our older members who contributed wartime reminiscences of their childhood in the area.

After the business of our annual meeting in November was over we had an evening of craft where we tried our hand at various simple but effective decorating techniques.

It had the happy result of several members who considered that they hadn’t a creative bone in their body discovering that they had after all.

Mission accomplished!

Our enjoyable year was rounded off with our Christmas party where we were treated to the beautiful piano playing and singing of Steve Hoskin whose selection of seasonal songs and carols with old favourites and some very lovely not so well-known ones pleased everyone and the party went with a swing.

Happy New Year!
