The Door Youth Project in Stroud works with young people aged 11-25 and their families providing them with one to one support, groups sessions, parenting courses and open access youth centres.

Five years ago the local branch of Provident donated a hamper to the charity which was divided to give two families something special that Christmas. Since then Provident has continued to support The Door with their local offices donating food and gifts each year and The Door’s team of volunteer mentors taking on the task of delivering them. The number of hampers delivered has grown year on year and with the addition of a food collection at the Tesco Stroud superstore this year the team put together and delivered 95 hampers to the young people and families they work with.

The 2016 deliveries took place on December 8, from The Door’s Stroud centre with hampers delivered far and wide across the district including to Stroud, Cam, Dursley, Wotton and North Nibley where The Door run youth clubs.

Coordinating the 95 deliveries and the 15 delivery volunteers The Door’s Youth Mentoring team leader Alistair Anderson said: "It has been a real pleasure to help bring this together, it has shown the true meaning of Christmas. I have been astounded by the generosity of all concerned, especially Provident and their staff for their continued support, Tesco and their customers as well as Forest Green Rovers, who helped provide some special gifts for some families with specific needs. Many families will have a better Christmas because of this generosity."

One parent after receiving her hamper said she was ‘blown away, thank you so much, I can’t believe it’s all for us, thank you!’
