Hopelands Preparatory School pupils sponsor toilets

ON MONDAY, February 6, the pupils of Hopelands Preparatory School presented a huge, in every sense of the word, cheque to Carol and Harry Anderton of the charity Toilet Twinning.

Each year the school nominates a single charity on which to focus their efforts to raise money.

This year’s charity was chosen by the members of the School Council as being particularly worthy.

The pupils’ main efforts were concentrated on the Annual Christmas Fair, a lively and fun event which even the Mayor of Stonehouse attended.

Beautiful hampers, home-made crafts and a day of dressing in silly Christmas jumpers raised enough money to fund eleven toilets in all – £660.

Mrs Barbara Sands, Head of PSHE, said: "I am so proud of our pupils at Hopelands. The lack of sanitary facilities in villages and camps is a serious problem which can cost lives and which should be so simple to resolve. The money they have raised will make a world of difference to so many people".

For each toilet sponsored the school received a framed certificate to hang around the school – in the toilets, where else – which mentions the exact location of ‘our’ latrines.
