Leonard Stanley Wine Circle, an impromptu quiz

The meeting was opened by Chairman David with several apologies being received.

Unfortunately our speaker for the evening did not materialise so instead of hearing about Cider with Rosie we ended up with Wine with David!

On the business side, although the 2017 programme was complete, the committee still had to arrange the annual outing in July and members were asked for any suggestions.

Members were pleased to hear that the June Garden Party will again be held at The Grange and we are very grateful to David and Fiona and hope the weather will be favourable this year.

David had received several comments about the Christmas Dinner being rather ‘old hat’ and members were asked by means of ticking a form, if they wished to continue with the same format or do something else.

As the Burns night is always successful and well attended, he felt it unfair for the same people to do the two events.

At the March meeting we will make a decision regarding the Christmas dinner.

With Chris standing down as Programme Organiser, Margaret Wheeler and Julia Winnington had kindly offered to take this over and prepare the 2018 programme for circulating at the AGM.

Chris would remain as Press and Minute Secretary.

Although our finances are fine, it would be good to get some new members with hopefully new ideas and David requested that we ask friends, neighbours etc to come along tor a meeting with the idea of perhaps joining us.

We are a very social and friendly group, so please do give us a try.

With no speaker, David stepped into the breach and we all enjoyed an unusual sort of quiz, being given a few letters and having to sort out a well known saying or phrase, such as J of A T M of N i.e. Jack of all trades, master of none.

(This was an easy one).

It certainly taxed our brains and afterwards we enjoyed the usual splendid supper provided by members.

Next meeting is on Wednesday, March 29, when James MacLeod and Anne Maggs will talk about their life as a Professional Toastmaster and Master of Ceremonies.
