Stonehouse Women's Royal British Legion with Jan Thomas of Boatmobility

THE monthly meeting of the Stonehouse WRBL took place at the Community Centre on Thursday, February 23.

Rosemary Bodenham led the exhortation and silent tribute.

There were 19 members present.

We were sorry to hear that our chairman Janet Walsh is having to resign for health reasons.

We give her great thanks for all her wonderful leadership over the last 13 years.

Our speaker for the afternoon was Jan Thomas of Boatmobility.

This is a community group for people who like to be on the water, especially for children with special needs and those with disabilities and mobility problems. There are two six seater kata kanus which go out on the Stroudwater Canal.

They are very safe.

Everyone enjoys the relaxed feeling and watching all the wildlife.

People from aged three to 83 have paddled with them.

There is a website - cotswoldboatmobility.org.uk and there are three boats available.

There is no charge.

The winners of the competition for a picture of water were June Dolphin and Carol Hanney.

Our next meeting is on Thursday, March 30 at 1.45pm in the Community Centre and we would be pleased to welcome new members.

It is our 90th anniversary this year when we hope to celebrate with a thanksgiving Service and other events including a cream tea.

We were asked to bring a donation for our big Easter Raffle next month.

The competition will be an Easter Card.

Our speaker will be Tony Osman on Glassblowing.
