The choir at the heart of the community offers great enjoyment
SINGING in a choir is known to have real medical and psychological benefits.
TV programmes by Gareth Malone and others have helped to alert many
more people to both the benefits and pleasures of belonging to and singing in
choirs.
Stonehouse is fortunate in having an active and enthusiastic Community Choir
which has grown in numbers and ability since it was started in October 2014
by Olga Gibbons and her daughter Amy Pearce as Musical Director.
Most members come from the town as well as others from Stroud and the local area.
All abilities are welcomed and there is a real emphasis on fun and singing for pleasure.
A range of music is sung varying from pop music, musicals and songs from different eras.
Amy Pearce has been joined by Joshua Crunden as joint Musical Director and is also the accompanist.
Both are talented conductors.
Rehearsals take place on Mondays at St Josephs Church Hall, Oldends Lane, Stonehouse GL10 2DG from 7.15pm to 9pm.
There is a break half way through rehearsals for tea and a biscuit and a chat.
A donation of £2 is asked for to cover expenses.
The Choir has performed at local venues and events including the Stonehouse
Goodwill Fest, the Civic Carol Service, the Stonehouse Pensioners Club, local
Sheltered accommodation and day centres, as well as one off sessions
supporting events in the local Community.
Rehearsals are currently taking place for a free Easter Concert, to include songs
from Les Miserables, to be held at St Josephs Church, Stonehouse on Monday, April 3, at 7.30pm.
Stonehouse Community Choir has its own page on Facebook.
More singers, in particular men, are needed by the Choir.
Experience is not necessary and there are no auditions.
