Cainscross WI with speaker Celia Hargrave on ‘Being a Magistrate’

WE MET at Cainscross again on Tuesday for our March 7 meeting.

It was good to see all members returned and also a visitor in attendance.

Crystal Harrison has returned after her knee surgery and it was good to see her again.

Pam Eliott was thanked for her lovely table flowers of a very pretty little jug of beautiful daffodils and yellow forsythia.

We had the usual business part of the evening first, with the minutes of last meeting, Treasurer’s Report and correspondence.

Pam Eliott is now going as our Representative to the June meeting at Liverpool and we are sure she will enjoy that when the time comes.

Next meeting is our Member’s Evening and we all agreed we would like a Cheese and Wine Evening again, which has proved very popular the last few years and Pam Clapp has kindly offered to set some quizzes again for us.

Also we have agreed we would like a trip out in July for our Birthday Party evening, so Doreen is looking into that again on our behalf.

With business concluded, we welcomed Celia Hargrave from Sheepscombe who gave us a very informative talk on ‘Being a Magistrate’.

Celia is a good, clear speaker who we have met before and we all agreed we learnt a lot about what exactly goes on at a Magistrate’s Court, the types of sentence that can be handed out and all about the ‘tiered’ system of courts in the land.

It appears there is now only one Magistrate’s Court left in the whole of Gloucestershire.

We then enjoyed refreshments and the calling of the raffle and with the monthly competition winners announced as:-

First - Tina Hewgill

Second - Mary Jarrett

Third - Georgie Hall

It signalled the end of another meeting.

As already stated, our next meeting will be the Cheese and Wine Evening which will take place as usual in St Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross on Tuesday, April 4.

The evening to start at 7.15pm with visitors/new members always welcome to join us.
