Stonehouse Women's Royal British Legion
THE monthly meeting of the Stonehouse WRBL took place at the Community Centre on Thursday, March 30.
Rosemary Bodenham led the exhortation and silent tribute.
There were 24 members present.
This month we had a very interesting talk by Tony Osman on the history of glass and a demonstration by Tony of glass blowing.
He brought some interesting items,
especially the small perfume bottles which he had made.
Glass was first made by the ancient Egyptians in 3,000 BC.
Just three ingredients are needed; sand, washing soda and limestone.
These are mixed together and heated up to 1,400 degrees centigrade.
The lovely blue Bristol glass was made by adding cobalt oxide.
Tony heated a tube and blew down the open end to make interesting shapes.
Rosemary thanked him for his talk.
The competition for an Easter card was won by Dolores Merrett and Penny Sweet.
Our next meeting is on April 27, at 1.45pm when Paul Evans will speak on miniature gardens.
There will be a coffee morning on May 10, 10-12am, in the Community Centre as part of our 90th anniversary celebrations.
Members were asked if they had anything interesting for the 90 years history display eg photos etc.
We were also asked to bring items for the August tombola.
The competition will be for a miniature garden.
We are always pleased to welcome new members.
