Nailsworth & District Flower Arrangement Society

OUR April meeting was as always the first of the Societies 2017 Calendar, when annual subscriptions are paid and members receive their programme for the coming year.

A large number of members and friends were seated to see the beautiful arrangements demonstrated for us by pre- National demonstrator Sharon Badger from Leicestershire.

Sharon’s theme for the evening was “Spring Celebration”.

For her first arrangement entitled “A walk in the Countryside” Sharon took us down a country lane with a hedgerow design of pussy-willow, ivy, daffodils, primroses and cowslips.

A spring garden with flowering currant, viburnum, skimia a beautiful pink rose called “heaven” arranged with tulips and purple anemonies completed the picture for her second design.

For her third arrangement entitled “Spring Cleaning” Sharon brought groans from the audience, however her bright yellow bucket containing euronomous, the popular anastasia chrysanthemums with vibrant yellow gerberas and tulips soon changed the mood.

Baking, a “Recipe for a happy home” was her next theme.

For this Sharon demonstrated a striking arrangement of fatsia leaves, cornus, sunflowers, red roses, mahonia, and red anthiriums.

A fifth arrangement of formium leaves orange and red gerberas with more anastasia chrysanthemums represented ”Shopping” and for her final design Sharon made a stunning white arrangement of palm leaves, and cherry blossom with white carnations and white stocks representing Easter and “New Life”.

Competition “A Touch of Gold” winners were; first - Daphne Turner, second - Margaret Ganner, third - Elaine Bushby.
