Stonehouse Royal British Legion Women's Section with speaker Paul Evans
THE April meeting took place at the Community Centre on Thursday, April 27.
Rosemary Bodenham was in the chair.
She led the exhortation and silent tribute.
There were 23 members present.
Mr Paul Evans was welcomed as our speaker.
He entertained us with an interesting selection of poems and readings, some familiar such as "Leisure" by WH Davies, and "If" by Rudyard Kipling.
We also heard "What is a Grandmother?" written by an eight year old girl and a letter written by a 98 year old lady to her bank.
It was a varied programme which also included a Welsh monologue and Stanley Holloway`s famous poem of Albert and the Lion.
Everyone enjoyed the varied selection of readings.
Paul Evans said that there are more poems written about "Love" than any other subject in anthologies.
Next month on Thursday, May 25, at 1.45pm we will have a visit from The Severn Freewheelers.
The competition will be a wild animal ornament.
Members were reminded of the Coffee Morning between 10am and 12noon on May 10, and were asked to bring cakes and other items for the stalls.
There will be an outing to Weston on June 29.
We are always pleased to welcome new members.
